In a landmark development for financial security in Latin America, three of Argentina’s leading financial institutions – Banco Galicia, Naranja X, and Santander — have joined forces to launch BioCatch Trust Argentina, the region’s first real-time, behavioural fraud intelligence-sharing network.
The initiative, powered by biometric and behavioural data specialist BioCatch, marks a critical step in proactive fraud prevention across the national banking sector.
Unlike traditional post-event reporting systems, BioCatch Trust stands apart by enabling pre-emptive fraud detection.
Drawing on over 3,000 behavioural indicators – ranging from keystroke dynamics and mouse movement patterns to touchscreen pressure – the network evaluates the legitimacy of a receiving account before a payment is processed.
If suspicious activity is detected, the sending bank is alerted in real time, enabling it to halt the transaction before any funds are transferred.
This approach is especially vital in combating so-called mule accounts, which criminals use to funnel the proceeds of fraud and other financial crimes.
As Gadi Mazor, CEO of BioCatch, explains: “It takes a network to fight a network. We’re empowering Argentinian banks with real-time, cross-institutional intelligence to identify and isolate suspicious accounts before damage is done.”
The technology aggregates signals from digital banking sessions, devices, payment metadata, and non-monetary activity to build a holistic risk profile of destination accounts.
Importantly, it operates within a privacy-preserving framework, using pseudonymisation to protect the identities of account holders while enabling interbank collaboration.
Bank executives are lauding the move as a pivotal advance in customer protection.
Pedro Adamovic, CISO at Banco Galicia, described the network as “an intelligent extension” of existing fraud defences.
“It allows us to act not just on what we see from the sender but on what we know of the recipient — something we couldn’t access alone.”
