Europe’s largest ticketing provider, CTS Eventim, has become the first major e-commerce company in Germany to integrate Wero, the new pan-European digital wallet developed under the European Payments Initiative (EPI).

The move marks a milestone for the EU-backed project, as it seeks to build a unified European alternative to global card schemes and tech giants’ payment systems.
Having amassed more than 45 million users in just 15 months, Wero enables instant, account-to-account (A2A) payments in under ten seconds.
The integration allows Eventim customers to pay for concert, theatre, and sports tickets directly from their bank accounts via a mobile-first interface — without relying on cards or intermediaries.
The technical integration was delivered by PPRO, the payments infrastructure provider, which will process Wero transactions for Eventim’s online ticket shop.
The partnership signals a significant breakthrough for Wero’s e-commerce ambitions, aligning with its broader plan to expand across Europe through partnerships with banks, acquirers, and major merchants.
A milestone for the European Payments Initiative
EPI Chief Executive Martina Weimert hailed the deployment as “a major step toward offering instant, secure account-to-account payments across borders.”
She said the rollout in Germany is the first phase of Wero’s e-commerce expansion, aiming to make payments more convenient for consumers and more cost-efficient for merchants.
The initiative’s backers — 14 of Europe’s largest banks — have also urged the European Central Bank to reconsider its plans for a digital euro, arguing it could duplicate the same use cases as private innovations such as Wero.
“The current design of the retail digital euro largely addresses the same use cases as private solutions, without offering any clear added value,” the banks warned ahead of a scheduled ECB hearing.
